Mud Pools and Glow Worms

MUDPOOLS

Sorry folks, no pictures of the mud baths, our cameras may be splash proof from water, but I didn’t count on them being mud proof.
Besides, we were both covered in mud so we would have blended in anyway.

The mud baths were fun and they were the same wild geothermal pools bubbling up from the ground as they were before Europeans took over and surrounded each pool with concrete for visitors access. Regardless of feeling that we were in a faux geothermal pool, we still had fun. It was nice knowing that the management didn’t alter the pools too much and they had no control over the temperature.

There was one Sulphur pool which we couldn’t swim in, l think if it was much hotter it would have started boiling.

If mudpools are our unit of Measurement, then we rate the Hells gate mud pools 82.5 mud pools out of 100 mud pools.

GLOW WORMS

Again, no pictures of the glowworms themselves. If you didn’t know already, glow worms are sensitive to light and noise. We gave ourselves the best possible chance to see them, by kayaking down a lake at the dead of night. We were wery  wery qwiett.

This was an incredible night, we were lucky again to receive a private tour by a lovely guide also named Marc. He was a lot of fun and also towed us through the most scenic part of the journey so we could sit back & look up.

Words can’t describe the beauty of floating down the narrow waters of a deep gorge in the mountains in the black of night, being surrounded by the noise of wildlife, only to look up and see the sides of the gorge glowing like the Milky Way in blue & green. It brought true wonder and amazement to our eyes. There were thousands of little lights hanging of the cliff edges. Each little light representing 1 little glow worm trying to attract his dinner.

If glowworms are our unit of measurement, then we rate this experience 200 glowworms out of 100 glow worms.

If you wan’t to try this experience for yourself, we recommend you try these guys: http://www.kayaktoursnz.com/

Here’s some pictures of the kayaking. Enjoy.
