Franz Josef Glacier

WOW. I mean, WOW. Franz Josef is a small town, that probably wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the big moving river of ice, also known as Franz Josef Glacier. The glacier brings thousands of people each year to this tiny town to enjoy what the region has to offer. We started out with the quad bikes as I posted earlier. Old Brunner Mine Site

The details of when we were in a certain place started getting a little blurry at this point in the trip, so some of these posts might be out of order. Never mind. Somewhere along the way we stopped off to see the Old Brunner Mine Site. It was a coal mine on the west coast of the south island. Unfortunately there was a huge disaster and a lot of people died. Jet Boats & Quad Bikes

I wish we had photos to share from the Jet Boat experience, but we were worried we might get a little wet and we were right. Our slightly unhinged but extremely likeable boat captain and tour guide Mark, took us on an exhilarating 40 minute ride down the Buller Gorge Canyon on the Murchison river.
