お菓子 SWEETS!

Posted by in Japanese

I have a slightly unhealthy relationship with food, because I enjoy it WAY too much.
Let me share with you the food which has recently been appearing in my cupboard.  I have no idea how it got there, but I’m glad it did, and since it appeared I figured it would be a waste not to eat it. I’m sharing these particular treats with you, because I have never seen a similar product in Australia.

Just like a chocolate milkshake - Only crunchy!

POCKY
Just like a strawberry milkshake, only crunchy! This is a special Halloween edition, but the regular ones are just as tasty!! This one even came with a free hat! Sorry, you don’t get a free hat demonstration. To be honest, I tried putting the hat together, but it required a skill which was far beyond my available attention span.

Great with a Cuppa!

HARVEST BISCUITS
These are just a delicious wafer thin cookie with adorable packaging. One of the many things they do really well in Japan is cuteness.

These biscuits melt in your mouth and in your cuppa tea, It is a little on the soft side for dunking but the flavour is a really rich golden syrup flavour.

OMG So Delicious!

 キャラメルコーン
Just like it says on the Packet. These are HUGE caramel corn treats. Their texture is like Cheezels, their flavour is sweet like caramel popcorn and because they are full of sugar, they are incredibly addictive.

But, you know they coolest thing about this treat? (Apart from the fact they make you feel like a miniature person)  In case the cute little peanut on the packet didn’t give it away…They have surprise peanuts in the bottom!! It’s like two treats in one!!

MIXED DROPS
The last treat is probably the saddest treat I have ever eaten. It all begins with a movie called  “Grave of the Fireflies” (火垂るの墓)Please if you have not heard of, or watched this film before, I implore you to watch it NOW. It is a very important part of Japanese history. Each year in Japan on August 6th, this movie is aired to mark the anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima.  Lest we forget.

Regardless of this lollies sad history, they are delicious, although I eat them slowly and almost reluctantly as it is a reminder of a harrowing past. Please, watch the movie and you will understand.

Ok, that’s enough food teasing for today. Next time you pass an Asian supermarket, don’t be afraid to stop in and try some Japanese treats. I can highly recommend them.
